Affirmations are a powerful way to super-charge any effort for self-improvement. The power of affirmations really kicks in when you repeat them many times throughout the day, over a period of 15 days or more. For best results:

  • Pick an affirmation that really resonates with you, one that gives you that "magical" feeling. Use your intuition as you are writing. The best affirmation for you will just "feel right."

  • When writing the affirmation, use words that have oomph to you or that are particularly meaningful.

  • Make the affirmation about the "new" that you want or what you want to be more of, rather than what you don't want.

  • When you have an affirmation that feels on-target, write it on Post-Its in places where you will see it oftenÉ.the dashboard in your car, inside your clothes closet, your calendarÉ.anywhere that will catch your eye!

  • Commit to daily affirmations for at least 15 days. However, 30 days is likely to be more effective with more permanent effects. Track this on your calendar as you go.

  • Choose regular times throughout the day that you'll commit to repeat your affirmation, ten times each. For example, when you wake up before you get out of bed, while you're driving to and from work, during your breaks, while you're exercising, etc.

  • Spend some time each day journaling about how excited you are about the idea of this new change. Lean into the change and how the experience will feel. Imagine it, feel it, luxuriate in it, celebrate it. Write about how wonderful it is and how great you are to be taking this positive step for yourself.
